Flupropanate is a synthetic organofluorine compound belonging to the class of halogenated alkanoic acids. It is used as a systemic herbicide. The sodium salt, flupropanate-sodium, is commonly used in commercial formulations to improve water solubility. Flupropanate was approved for use in Australia in 1975 where it is used to control the grasses serrated tussock (Nassella trichotoma), giant rat's tail grass (Sporobolus spp.), African lovegrass (Eragrostis curvula), parramatta grass (Sporobolus fertilis), and Chilean needle grass (Nassella neesiana). It has also been used to control invasive forms of bamboo.
