Grewcock's sportive lemur

Grewcock's sportive lemur is a biology topic covered in the lgStudy science library. This page brings together a partial reference excerpt, illustrations, worked examples, real-world applications and a short study plan, so you can understand Grewcock's sportive lemur rather than just read about it. In short: Grewcock's sportive lemur (Lepilemur grewcockorum), or the Anjiamangirana sportive lemur, is a sportive lemur endemic to Madagascar. It is a medium-sized sportive lemurs with a total length of about 55 to 63 cm (22 to 25 in), of which 26–30 cm (10–12 in) are tail.

Key takeaways

  • Grewcock's sportive lemur belongs to biology; place it in that map before memorising details.
  • Learn the definition first, then one example that makes the definition concrete.
  • Connect Grewcock's sportive lemur to a quantity you can measure, compute or draw — that is where exam questions come from.
  • Reproduce the core statement of Grewcock's sportive lemur from memory before moving on to harder problems.

Reference excerpt

Grewcock's sportive lemur (Lepilemur grewcockorum), or the Anjiamangirana sportive lemur, is a sportive lemur endemic to Madagascar. It is a medium-sized sportive lemurs with a total length of about 55 to 63 cm (22 to 25 in), of which 26–30 cm (10–12 in) are tail. Grewcock's sportive lemur is found in northwestern Madagascar, living in dry deciduous forests. Originally named L. grewcocki, the name was found to be incorrectly formed and was corrected to L. grewcockorum in 2009. It was also found to be synonymous with the Manasamody sportive lemur (Lepilemur manasamody), known for its primarily grey-brown coloration and known only from Ambongabe and Anjiamangirana I (between the Sofia River in the south and the Maevarano River in the north). The decision was made because the sampling sites were within 2 km (1.2 mi) of each other, and no geographic barrier could be identified.

Worked examples

Example 1 — a first encounter with Grewcock's sportive lemur

Start with the simplest possible case. Write down what Grewcock's sportive lemur claims or describes in one sentence, then invent the smallest concrete situation in which that sentence is true. In biology, the smallest case is usually a single object, a single equation or a single measurement. Check that every symbol or term in your sentence has a meaning in that case.

Example 2 — changing one variable

Take the situation from Example 1 and change exactly one quantity: double it, halve it, or set it to zero. Predict what should happen to Grewcock's sportive lemur before you calculate. Comparing your prediction with the result is the fastest way to find out whether you understand the idea or only the words.

Example 3 — an exam-style question

Typical questions about Grewcock's sportive lemur ask you to (a) state it precisely, (b) apply it to given data, and (c) explain a limitation. Practise writing all three answers in under five minutes; the third part is what separates a full-mark answer from an average one.

Applications of Grewcock's sportive lemur

In research
Grewcock's sportive lemur appears in biology research whenever the underlying quantities have to be modelled precisely. Papers usually cite it as a starting assumption and then explore where it breaks down.
In technology and industry
Engineering practice reuses Grewcock's sportive lemur in design rules, simulations and safety margins. Knowing the idea lets you read a specification sheet and understand why the numbers look the way they do.
In the classroom
Grewcock's sportive lemur is common in secondary-school and first-year university syllabi. It links to neighbouring topics Arboreal mammals, Fauna listed on CITES Appendix I, IUCN Red List critically endangered species, so understanding it makes those chapters shorter.
In everyday life
Look for Grewcock's sportive lemur outside the textbook — in sport, cooking, traffic, electronics or the sky above you. An example you found yourself is remembered far longer than one you were given.
