Haburman Bridge

Haburman Bridge is a engineering topic covered in the lgStudy science library. This page brings together a partial reference excerpt, illustrations, worked examples, real-world applications and a short study plan, so you can understand Haburman Bridge rather than just read about it. In short: Haburman Bridge, also known as Çermik Bridge, (Turkish: Haburman Köprüsü or Çermik Köprüsü) is a historic bridge in Diyarbakır Province, southeastern Turkey. The bridge is in Çermik ilçe (district) of Diyarbakır Province.

Key takeaways

  • Haburman Bridge belongs to engineering; place it in that map before memorising details.
  • Learn the definition first, then one example that makes the definition concrete.
  • Connect Haburman Bridge to a quantity you can measure, compute or draw — that is where exam questions come from.
  • Reproduce the core statement of Haburman Bridge from memory before moving on to harder problems.

Reference excerpt

Haburman Bridge, also known as Çermik Bridge, (Turkish: Haburman Köprüsü or Çermik Köprüsü) is a historic bridge in Diyarbakır Province, southeastern Turkey. The bridge is in Çermik ilçe (district) of Diyarbakır Province. It is built over Sinek creek which is a tributary of Fırat River (Euphrates). According to the inscription of the bridge it was commissioned by Zübeyde Hatun (princess) of Artuqids in 1179. She was the daughter of Necmettin Alpi of the Mardin branch. It was restored in 1927. In 2010, after the construction of a new bridge the bridge was closed to the vehicle traffic. The total length of the bridge is 107 metres (351 ft) and the width of the road is 5.60 metres (18.4 ft). There is no parapet. The width of the main arch is 19.50 metres (64.0 ft). Its height is 12.50 metres (41.0 ft). There are two auxiliary arches (for discharging) on each side. They are 7.30 metres (24.0 ft) and 5.10 metres (16.7 ft) wide. Main construction material is limestone. In certain parts brick has also been used.

Worked examples

Example 1 — a first encounter with Haburman Bridge

Start with the simplest possible case. Write down what Haburman Bridge claims or describes in one sentence, then invent the smallest concrete situation in which that sentence is true. In engineering, the smallest case is usually a single object, a single equation or a single measurement. Check that every symbol or term in your sentence has a meaning in that case.

Example 2 — changing one variable

Take the situation from Example 1 and change exactly one quantity: double it, halve it, or set it to zero. Predict what should happen to Haburman Bridge before you calculate. Comparing your prediction with the result is the fastest way to find out whether you understand the idea or only the words.

Example 3 — an exam-style question

Typical questions about Haburman Bridge ask you to (a) state it precisely, (b) apply it to given data, and (c) explain a limitation. Practise writing all three answers in under five minutes; the third part is what separates a full-mark answer from an average one.

Applications of Haburman Bridge

In research
Haburman Bridge appears in engineering research whenever the underlying quantities have to be modelled precisely. Papers usually cite it as a starting assumption and then explore where it breaks down.
In technology and industry
Engineering practice reuses Haburman Bridge in design rules, simulations and safety margins. Knowing the idea lets you read a specification sheet and understand why the numbers look the way they do.
In the classroom
Haburman Bridge is common in secondary-school and first-year university syllabi. It links to neighbouring topics Arch bridges in Turkey, Artuqids, Bridges completed in the 12th century, so understanding it makes those chapters shorter.
In everyday life
Look for Haburman Bridge outside the textbook — in sport, cooking, traffic, electronics or the sky above you. An example you found yourself is remembered far longer than one you were given.

Frequently asked questions

What is Haburman Bridge in simple terms?

Haburman Bridge, also known as Çermik Bridge, (Turkish: Haburman Köprüsü or Çermik Köprüsü) is a historic bridge in Diyarbakır Province, southeastern Turkey. The bridge is in Çermik ilçe (district) of Diyarbakır Province.

Why does Haburman Bridge matter?

Because it connects several engineering ideas at once: it gives you a definition you can apply, a quantity you can calculate, and a way to check whether a result is plausible.

How should I study Haburman Bridge?

Read the excerpt, restate it from memory, then work through the examples and applications listed on this page. The five-step study plan above takes about twenty minutes.
