IFIAR was established in Paris in 2006.

Key takeaways

  • International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators belongs to science; place it in that map before memorising details.
  • Learn the definition first, then one example that makes the definition concrete.
  • Connect International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators to a quantity you can measure, compute or draw — that is where exam questions come from.
  • Reproduce the core statement of International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators from memory before moving on to harder problems.

Reference excerpt

The International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators (IFIAR) is a global member organization comprising independent audit regulators from 56 jurisdictions. IFIAR was established in Paris in 2006. Its members are audit regulators and supervisors from the continents of Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America and Oceania.

Activities IFIAR holds a Plenary meeting annually to discuss broad issues related to audit quality matters. There are five formal Working Groups that meet regularly throughout the year and submit their deliverables to the Plenary meeting:

Enforcement Working Group: chaired by Elizabeth Barrett, FRC, United Kingdom Global Audit Quality Working Group: chaired by Kara Stein, PCAOB, United States Investor and Other Stakeholder Working Group: chaired by Peter Hofbauer, APAB, Austria Inspection Workshops Working Group: chaired by Askin Akbulut, AOB, Germany Standards Coordination Working Group: chaired by James Ferris, FRC, United Kingdom

Inspection Findings Survey Since 2012, IFIAR conducts Annual Inspection Findings Survey and publishes its report. These reports show general trends of audit inspection findings.

Membership As of September 2024, IFIAR has 56 members. IFIAR members are divided into two categories:

Worked examples

Example 1 — a first encounter with International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators

Start with the simplest possible case. Write down what International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators claims or describes in one sentence, then invent the smallest concrete situation in which that sentence is true. In science, the smallest case is usually a single object, a single equation or a single measurement. Check that every symbol or term in your sentence has a meaning in that case.

Example 2 — changing one variable

Take the situation from Example 1 and change exactly one quantity: double it, halve it, or set it to zero. Predict what should happen to International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators before you calculate. Comparing your prediction with the result is the fastest way to find out whether you understand the idea or only the words.

Example 3 — an exam-style question

Typical questions about International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators ask you to (a) state it precisely, (b) apply it to given data, and (c) explain a limitation. Practise writing all three answers in under five minutes; the third part is what separates a full-mark answer from an average one.

Applications of International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators

In research
International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators appears in science research whenever the underlying quantities have to be modelled precisely. Papers usually cite it as a starting assumption and then explore where it breaks down.
In technology and industry
Engineering practice reuses International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators in design rules, simulations and safety margins. Knowing the idea lets you read a specification sheet and understand why the numbers look the way they do.
In the classroom
International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators is common in secondary-school and first-year university syllabi. It links to neighbouring topics Auditing organizations, Finance stubs, International standards organizations, so understanding it makes those chapters shorter.
In everyday life
Look for International Forum of Independent Audit Regulators outside the textbook — in sport, cooking, traffic, electronics or the sky above you. An example you found yourself is remembered far longer than one you were given.
