John Derek Beasley (15 February 1940 – 3 March 2024) was a British mathematician and chess composer.

Biography Beasley published around fifty endgame studies. He became the editor of British Chess Magazine in 1995, and founded the magazine British Endgame Study News (which he edited) in 1996. (It had 65 issues, the last one being published in 2010.) He represented Great Britain at the World Chess Solving Championship in 1977 and 1978.
