Jurgenne H. Primavera

Jurgenne H. Primavera is a astronomy topic covered in the lgStudy science library. This page brings together a partial reference excerpt, illustrations, worked examples, real-world applications and a short study plan, so you can understand Jurgenne H. Primavera rather than just read about it. In short: Jurgenne Honculada-Primavera (born February 22, 1947) is a widely cited Filipina marine scientist. For her research in mangrove ecosystem conservation she was honored as one of Time magazine's Heroes of the Environment for 2008.

Key takeaways

  • Jurgenne H. Primavera belongs to astronomy; place it in that map before memorising details.
  • Learn the definition first, then one example that makes the definition concrete.
  • Connect Jurgenne H. Primavera to a quantity you can measure, compute or draw — that is where exam questions come from.
  • Reproduce the core statement of Jurgenne H. Primavera from memory before moving on to harder problems.

Reference excerpt

Jurgenne Honculada-Primavera (born February 22, 1947) is a widely cited Filipina marine scientist. For her research in mangrove ecosystem conservation she was honored as one of Time magazine's Heroes of the Environment for 2008. She was inducted into the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) in 2015.

Biography Jurgenne and her twin sister, Georgette, were born on February 22, 1947 in Mindanao, in the Philippines. Primavera completed a BS in zoology from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 1966, an MA in zoology from Indiana University Bloomington in 1969, and a PhD in marine science from the University of the Philippines in 1996. For nearly a decade she taught biology and zoology at Mindanao State University, until a growing insurgency caused her to take a research position with the Aquaculture Department of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center in the safer Visayas where she retired as scientist emerita in 2007. Primavera was conferred a PhD honoris causa by Stockholm University in 2004 for her scientific work that shows the role of mangroves as vital recruitment areas for marine life, and that destruction of mangrove areas associated with pond farming of shrimp may have far-reaching negative socioeconomic implications. In 2005, she received a Pew Fellowship in marine conservation. In 2015, she was inducted as academician of the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST). In 2022, she was elected as a fellow of The World Academy of Sciences. She currently serves as the chief mangrove scientific adviser for the Zoological Society of London.

Worked examples

Example 1 — a first encounter with Jurgenne H. Primavera

Start with the simplest possible case. Write down what Jurgenne H. Primavera claims or describes in one sentence, then invent the smallest concrete situation in which that sentence is true. In astronomy, the smallest case is usually a single object, a single equation or a single measurement. Check that every symbol or term in your sentence has a meaning in that case.

Example 2 — changing one variable

Take the situation from Example 1 and change exactly one quantity: double it, halve it, or set it to zero. Predict what should happen to Jurgenne H. Primavera before you calculate. Comparing your prediction with the result is the fastest way to find out whether you understand the idea or only the words.

Example 3 — an exam-style question

Typical questions about Jurgenne H. Primavera ask you to (a) state it precisely, (b) apply it to given data, and (c) explain a limitation. Practise writing all three answers in under five minutes; the third part is what separates a full-mark answer from an average one.

Applications of Jurgenne H. Primavera

In research
Jurgenne H. Primavera appears in astronomy research whenever the underlying quantities have to be modelled precisely. Papers usually cite it as a starting assumption and then explore where it breaks down.
In technology and industry
Engineering practice reuses Jurgenne H. Primavera in design rules, simulations and safety margins. Knowing the idea lets you read a specification sheet and understand why the numbers look the way they do.
In the classroom
Jurgenne H. Primavera is common in secondary-school and first-year university syllabi. It links to neighbouring topics 1947 births, Indiana University Bloomington alumni, Living people, so understanding it makes those chapters shorter.
In everyday life
Look for Jurgenne H. Primavera outside the textbook — in sport, cooking, traffic, electronics or the sky above you. An example you found yourself is remembered far longer than one you were given.
