List of Indian and Madagascan dinosaurs

List of Indian and Madagascan dinosaurs is a science topic covered in the lgStudy science library. This page brings together a partial reference excerpt, illustrations, worked examples, real-world applications and a short study plan, so you can understand List of Indian and Madagascan dinosaurs rather than just read about it. In short: This is a list of non-avian dinosaurs whose remains have been recovered from the Indian subcontinent or Madagascar. Though widely separated today, the Indian subcontinent and Madagascar were connected throughout much of the Mesozoic and shared similar dinosaur faunas, distinct from what has been found on other modern African and Asian landmasses.

Key takeaways

  • List of Indian and Madagascan dinosaurs belongs to science; place it in that map before memorising details.
  • Learn the definition first, then one example that makes the definition concrete.
  • Connect List of Indian and Madagascan dinosaurs to a quantity you can measure, compute or draw — that is where exam questions come from.
  • Reproduce the core statement of List of Indian and Madagascan dinosaurs from memory before moving on to harder problems.

Reference excerpt

This is a list of non-avian dinosaurs whose remains have been recovered from the Indian subcontinent or Madagascar. Though widely separated today, the Indian subcontinent and Madagascar were connected throughout much of the Mesozoic and shared similar dinosaur faunas, distinct from what has been found on other modern African and Asian landmasses. The Indian fossil record of dinosaurs is good, with fossils coming from the entire Mesozoic era – starting with the Triassic period (a geological period that started 251.9 million years ago and continued till 201.3 million years ago), to the Jurassic period (201 million years ago to 143 million years ago) and Cretaceous period (from 143 million years ago to 66 million years ago), when globally all non-avian dinosaurs and 75 per cent of all life on Earth together became extinct. Madagascar also preserves various unique dinosaurs from the Triassic, the Jurassic and the Cretaceous.

Criteria for inclusion The genus must appear on the List of dinosaur genera. At least one named species of the creature must have been found in the Indian subcontinent or Madagascar.

Valid genera

Invalid and potentially valid genera

Alwalkeria maleriensis: Described based on a chimeric specimen. The exact holotypic bone cannot be identified any further than Avemetatarsalia. Dravidosaurus blanfordi: Described as a stegosaur but has been suggested to be a plesiosaur. However, it has been reported that stegosaur remains from its time and place are being described. Jubbulpuria tenuis: Potentially synonymous with Laevisuchus. Rahonavis ostromi: A small feathered maniraptoran. It has been variously suggested to be a dromaeosaurid (possibly an unenlagiine), an avialan or outside both groups.

Timeline This is a timeline of selected dinosaurs from the list above. Time is measured in a megaannum, which is a year when multiplied by a million times (i.e. a million years), along the x-axis.

Worked examples

Example 1 — a first encounter with List of Indian and Madagascan dinosaurs

Start with the simplest possible case. Write down what List of Indian and Madagascan dinosaurs claims or describes in one sentence, then invent the smallest concrete situation in which that sentence is true. In science, the smallest case is usually a single object, a single equation or a single measurement. Check that every symbol or term in your sentence has a meaning in that case.

Example 2 — changing one variable

Take the situation from Example 1 and change exactly one quantity: double it, halve it, or set it to zero. Predict what should happen to List of Indian and Madagascan dinosaurs before you calculate. Comparing your prediction with the result is the fastest way to find out whether you understand the idea or only the words.

Example 3 — an exam-style question

Typical questions about List of Indian and Madagascan dinosaurs ask you to (a) state it precisely, (b) apply it to given data, and (c) explain a limitation. Practise writing all three answers in under five minutes; the third part is what separates a full-mark answer from an average one.

Applications of List of Indian and Madagascan dinosaurs

In research
List of Indian and Madagascan dinosaurs appears in science research whenever the underlying quantities have to be modelled precisely. Papers usually cite it as a starting assumption and then explore where it breaks down.
In technology and industry
Engineering practice reuses List of Indian and Madagascan dinosaurs in design rules, simulations and safety margins. Knowing the idea lets you read a specification sheet and understand why the numbers look the way they do.
In the classroom
List of Indian and Madagascan dinosaurs is common in secondary-school and first-year university syllabi. It links to neighbouring topics Lists of biota of India, Lists of biota of Madagascar, Lists of dinosaurs by landmass, so understanding it makes those chapters shorter.
In everyday life
Look for List of Indian and Madagascan dinosaurs outside the textbook — in sport, cooking, traffic, electronics or the sky above you. An example you found yourself is remembered far longer than one you were given.
