The List of space launches by Ukrainian launch vehicles contains a list of 170 launches of Ukrainian-built launch vehicles carried out between 24 August 1991 and 31 July 2022. Thanks to these launches, hundreds of satellites for various purposes have been placed into Earth orbit.
The History of the Establishment of the State Space Agency of Ukraine
In 1991, following the collapse of the USSR, Ukraine inherited almost a third of the Soviet Union’s missile and space capabilities. Following Ukraine’s declaration of a nuclear-free status, the intercontinental ballistic missiles stationed on Ukrainian territory were taken off combat duty and dismantled, and the country’s missile and space programme was reoriented exclusively towards peaceful purposes. On 29 February 1992, a Presidential Decree issued under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine established the National Space Agency of Ukraine, which took over the management of more than 30 design bureaux, scientific organisations and institutions, military units and industrial enterprises directly involved in space activities. These included the Dnipropetrovsk-based enterprises State Enterprise KB Pivdenne and the Pivdenmash, those in Kharkiv — Kommunar, Khartron and the Research Institute of Radio Measurements, those in Kyiv — the Central Design Bureau and the Arsenal Factory, “Kyivprylad” and the Kyiv Radio Plant, and the National Space Facilities Control and Test Center.
