Telephone country codes are telephone number prefixes for reaching subscribers in foreign countries or areas by international direct dialing (IDD). Country codes are defined by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in ITU-T standards E.123 and E.164 and constitute the international telephone numbering plan of the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and other networks. In international calls, they are dialed after the international call prefixes.
