Key takeaways

  • List of turkey breeds belongs to science; place it in that map before memorising details.
  • Learn the definition first, then one example that makes the definition concrete.
  • Connect List of turkey breeds to a quantity you can measure, compute or draw — that is where exam questions come from.
  • Reproduce the core statement of List of turkey breeds from memory before moving on to harder problems.

Reference excerpt

Turkey breeds are reported to the DAD-IS breed database of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations by more than sixty countries. The breeds reported include commercial/industrial strains, local types and recognised breeds in many countries.

United States Twenty breeds are reported to DAD-IS by the United States. Eight of them are recognised by the American Poultry Association in its breed standard, the American Standard of Perfection, where however they are classified as "varieties" rather than as breeds. This may be because the original genotype for domestic turkeys was for Bronze, and all other color varieties are due to mutations from it.

APA varieties

Europe Twelve breeds are recognized by the Entente Européenne d'Aviculture et de Cuniculture. Others with breed standards of European national associations are accepted.

EE breeds

Other varieties not recognized by the APA or EE include the following:

Auburn or Light Brown is an extremely rare as its numbers are not considered high enough for inclusion in the Standard. An extremely rare variant of the Auburn is called the Silver Auburn. Buff (or Jersey Buff) is a very rare heritage breed. Chocolate breed is chocolate brown in color. Day-old poults are white-faced with chocolate bodies. Midget White is a rare heritage breed sometimes confused with the Beltsville Small White. Zagorje (Zagorski puran) is a Croatian variant of turkey.

Worked examples

Example 1 — a first encounter with List of turkey breeds

Start with the simplest possible case. Write down what List of turkey breeds claims or describes in one sentence, then invent the smallest concrete situation in which that sentence is true. In science, the smallest case is usually a single object, a single equation or a single measurement. Check that every symbol or term in your sentence has a meaning in that case.

Example 2 — changing one variable

Take the situation from Example 1 and change exactly one quantity: double it, halve it, or set it to zero. Predict what should happen to List of turkey breeds before you calculate. Comparing your prediction with the result is the fastest way to find out whether you understand the idea or only the words.

Example 3 — an exam-style question

Typical questions about List of turkey breeds ask you to (a) state it precisely, (b) apply it to given data, and (c) explain a limitation. Practise writing all three answers in under five minutes; the third part is what separates a full-mark answer from an average one.

Applications of List of turkey breeds

In research
List of turkey breeds appears in science research whenever the underlying quantities have to be modelled precisely. Papers usually cite it as a starting assumption and then explore where it breaks down.
In technology and industry
Engineering practice reuses List of turkey breeds in design rules, simulations and safety margins. Knowing the idea lets you read a specification sheet and understand why the numbers look the way they do.
In the classroom
List of turkey breeds is common in secondary-school and first-year university syllabi. It links to neighbouring topics Lists of birds, Lists of breeds, Turkey breeds, so understanding it makes those chapters shorter.
In everyday life
Look for List of turkey breeds outside the textbook — in sport, cooking, traffic, electronics or the sky above you. An example you found yourself is remembered far longer than one you were given.
