Longsheng Rice Terraces

Longsheng Rice Terraces is a science topic covered in the lgStudy science library. This page brings together a partial reference excerpt, illustrations, worked examples, real-world applications and a short study plan, so you can understand Longsheng Rice Terraces rather than just read about it. In short: The Longji Rice Terraces ("Loong Dragon's Spine") (simplified Chinese: 龙脊梯田; traditional Chinese: 龍脊梯田; pinyin: lóngjǐ tītián), also called the Longsheng Rice Terraces ("Dragon's Victory") (simplified Chinese: 龙胜梯田; traditional Chinese: 龍勝梯田; pinyin: lóngshèng tītián), are located in the town of Longji in Longsheng Various Nationalities Autonomous County, about 100 kilometres (62 mi) from Guilin, China. Key takeaways

  • Longsheng Rice Terraces belongs to science; place it in that map before memorising details.
  • Learn the definition first, then one example that makes the definition concrete.
  • Connect Longsheng Rice Terraces to a quantity you can measure, compute or draw — that is where exam questions come from.
  • Reproduce the core statement of Longsheng Rice Terraces from memory before moving on to harder problems.

Reference excerpt

The Longji Rice Terraces ("Loong Dragon's Spine") (simplified Chinese: 龙脊梯田; traditional Chinese: 龍脊梯田; pinyin: lóngjǐ tītián), also called the Longsheng Rice Terraces ("Dragon's Victory") (simplified Chinese: 龙胜梯田; traditional Chinese: 龍勝梯田; pinyin: lóngshèng tītián), are located in the town of Longji in Longsheng Various Nationalities Autonomous County, about 100 kilometres (62 mi) from Guilin, China. The terraced fields are built along the slope winding from the riverside up to the mountain top, between 600 and 800 metres (2,000 and 2,600 ft) above sea level. A coiling terrace line that starts from the mountain foot up to the mountain top divides the mountain into layers of water in spring, layers of green rice shoots in summer, layers of rice in fall, and layers of frost in winter. The terraced fields were mostly built about 650 years ago. Longji Terraced Rice Fields received their name because the rice terraces resemble a loong dragon's scales, while the summit of the mountain range looks like the backbone of the dragon. In early June, water is pumped over the rice paddies, and young plants are transferred to the main terraces.

Worked examples

Example 1 — a first encounter with Longsheng Rice Terraces

Start with the simplest possible case. Write down what Longsheng Rice Terraces claims or describes in one sentence, then invent the smallest concrete situation in which that sentence is true. In science, the smallest case is usually a single object, a single equation or a single measurement. Check that every symbol or term in your sentence has a meaning in that case.

Example 2 — changing one variable

Take the situation from Example 1 and change exactly one quantity: double it, halve it, or set it to zero. Predict what should happen to Longsheng Rice Terraces before you calculate. Comparing your prediction with the result is the fastest way to find out whether you understand the idea or only the words.

Example 3 — an exam-style question

Typical questions about Longsheng Rice Terraces ask you to (a) state it precisely, (b) apply it to given data, and (c) explain a limitation. Practise writing all three answers in under five minutes; the third part is what separates a full-mark answer from an average one.

Applications of Longsheng Rice Terraces

In research
Longsheng Rice Terraces appears in science research whenever the underlying quantities have to be modelled precisely. Papers usually cite it as a starting assumption and then explore where it breaks down.
In technology and industry
Engineering practice reuses Longsheng Rice Terraces in design rules, simulations and safety margins. Knowing the idea lets you read a specification sheet and understand why the numbers look the way they do.
In the classroom
Longsheng Rice Terraces is common in secondary-school and first-year university syllabi. It links to neighbouring topics Agricultural terraces, Agriculture stubs, Geography of Guilin, so understanding it makes those chapters shorter.
In everyday life
Look for Longsheng Rice Terraces outside the textbook — in sport, cooking, traffic, electronics or the sky above you. An example you found yourself is remembered far longer than one you were given.
