Marie Clément Gaston Gautier

Marie Clément Gaston Gautier is a science topic covered in the lgStudy science library. This page brings together a partial reference excerpt, illustrations, worked examples, real-world applications and a short study plan, so you can understand Marie Clément Gaston Gautier rather than just read about it. In short: Marie Clément Gaston Gautier (10 April 1841 – 7 October 1911) was a French botanist and agriculturalist. Biography Gautier was born in Narbonne, and collected plants in the vicinity of his native city as well as in the Corbières Massif and the Pyrenees.

Key takeaways

  • Marie Clément Gaston Gautier belongs to science; place it in that map before memorising details.
  • Learn the definition first, then one example that makes the definition concrete.
  • Connect Marie Clément Gaston Gautier to a quantity you can measure, compute or draw — that is where exam questions come from.
  • Reproduce the core statement of Marie Clément Gaston Gautier from memory before moving on to harder problems.

Reference excerpt

Marie Clément Gaston Gautier (10 April 1841 – 7 October 1911) was a French botanist and agriculturalist.

Biography Gautier was born in Narbonne, and collected plants in the vicinity of his native city as well as in the Corbières Massif and the Pyrenees. These specimens became an important part of an impressive herbarium that he had amassed during his career. As an agriculturalist, he was at the forefront of issues that included swamp drainage, reclamation of barren land, and modern viticultural practices.

Works Among his published works were Catalogue raisonné de la flore des Pyrénées-Orientales (Catalogue raisonné on the flora of Pyrénées-Orientales, 1898) and Catalogue de la flore des Corbières (Catalog on the flora of the Corbières, being published posthumously in 1912). Other noted works by Gautier include:

Rapport sur les herborisations dans les environs de Narbonne, instituées par le Comice agricole de l'arrondissement de Narbonne 1876 - Report on herborizations near Narbonne, etc. Hieraciotheca Gallica et Hispanica (with Casimir Arvet-Touvet 1841–1913), exsiccatae: twenty fascicles between 1897 and 1908., see also treatment as two exsiccata series: Hieraciotheca Gallica and Hieraciotheca Hispanica.

Worked examples

Example 1 — a first encounter with Marie Clément Gaston Gautier

Start with the simplest possible case. Write down what Marie Clément Gaston Gautier claims or describes in one sentence, then invent the smallest concrete situation in which that sentence is true. In science, the smallest case is usually a single object, a single equation or a single measurement. Check that every symbol or term in your sentence has a meaning in that case.

Example 2 — changing one variable

Take the situation from Example 1 and change exactly one quantity: double it, halve it, or set it to zero. Predict what should happen to Marie Clément Gaston Gautier before you calculate. Comparing your prediction with the result is the fastest way to find out whether you understand the idea or only the words.

Example 3 — an exam-style question

Typical questions about Marie Clément Gaston Gautier ask you to (a) state it precisely, (b) apply it to given data, and (c) explain a limitation. Practise writing all three answers in under five minutes; the third part is what separates a full-mark answer from an average one.

Applications of Marie Clément Gaston Gautier

In research
Marie Clément Gaston Gautier appears in science research whenever the underlying quantities have to be modelled precisely. Papers usually cite it as a starting assumption and then explore where it breaks down.
In technology and industry
Engineering practice reuses Marie Clément Gaston Gautier in design rules, simulations and safety margins. Knowing the idea lets you read a specification sheet and understand why the numbers look the way they do.
In the classroom
Marie Clément Gaston Gautier is common in secondary-school and first-year university syllabi. It links to neighbouring topics 1841 births, 1911 deaths, 19th-century French botanists, so understanding it makes those chapters shorter.
In everyday life
Look for Marie Clément Gaston Gautier outside the textbook — in sport, cooking, traffic, electronics or the sky above you. An example you found yourself is remembered far longer than one you were given.
