Massacoe Forest Pavilion

Massacoe Forest Pavilion is a engineering topic covered in the lgStudy science library. This page brings together a partial reference excerpt, illustrations, worked examples, real-world applications and a short study plan, so you can understand Massacoe Forest Pavilion rather than just read about it. In short: The Massacoe Forest Pavilion, also known as the Stratton Brook Park Pavilion, is a historic outdoor pavilion located in Stratton Brook State Park in Simsbury, Connecticut. It was built in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), and is a well-preserved example of the Corps' work.

Key takeaways

  • Massacoe Forest Pavilion belongs to engineering; place it in that map before memorising details.
  • Learn the definition first, then one example that makes the definition concrete.
  • Connect Massacoe Forest Pavilion to a quantity you can measure, compute or draw — that is where exam questions come from.
  • Reproduce the core statement of Massacoe Forest Pavilion from memory before moving on to harder problems.

Reference excerpt

The Massacoe Forest Pavilion, also known as the Stratton Brook Park Pavilion, is a historic outdoor pavilion located in Stratton Brook State Park in Simsbury, Connecticut. It was built in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), and is a well-preserved example of the Corps' work. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Description and history Stratton Brook State Park is located in central Simsbury, on the south side of Farms Village Road (Connecticut Route 309). Its access drive leads to a parking area, with a beach and pond to its east and an open grassy area in between. At the southern end of the grassy area a paved path crosses a covered bridge leading to the picnic pavilion, which is set overlooking a second pond. The structure is built out of timber framing, and measures about 20 by 40 feet (6.1 m × 12.2 m). At one end is a large fieldstone chimney with sloping shoulders and a builtin bench. The structure is covered by a roof supported by heavy wooden trusses with rounded rafter ends. The floor of the shelter is flagstone. The shelter was built in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and is one of many CCC structures recognized in a Connecticut-wide thematic resources study. It was built beside Massacoe Pond, created by a dam built by the CCC in 1933. That dam was later replaced by the present concrete dam. At the time of their construction, the area was part of Massacoe State Forest, founded in 1908 with land donated by a local conservationist; Stratton Brook State Park was established in 1949.

Worked examples

Example 1 — a first encounter with Massacoe Forest Pavilion

Start with the simplest possible case. Write down what Massacoe Forest Pavilion claims or describes in one sentence, then invent the smallest concrete situation in which that sentence is true. In engineering, the smallest case is usually a single object, a single equation or a single measurement. Check that every symbol or term in your sentence has a meaning in that case.

Example 2 — changing one variable

Take the situation from Example 1 and change exactly one quantity: double it, halve it, or set it to zero. Predict what should happen to Massacoe Forest Pavilion before you calculate. Comparing your prediction with the result is the fastest way to find out whether you understand the idea or only the words.

Example 3 — an exam-style question

Typical questions about Massacoe Forest Pavilion ask you to (a) state it precisely, (b) apply it to given data, and (c) explain a limitation. Practise writing all three answers in under five minutes; the third part is what separates a full-mark answer from an average one.

Applications of Massacoe Forest Pavilion

In research
Massacoe Forest Pavilion appears in engineering research whenever the underlying quantities have to be modelled precisely. Papers usually cite it as a starting assumption and then explore where it breaks down.
In technology and industry
Engineering practice reuses Massacoe Forest Pavilion in design rules, simulations and safety margins. Knowing the idea lets you read a specification sheet and understand why the numbers look the way they do.
In the classroom
Massacoe Forest Pavilion is common in secondary-school and first-year university syllabi. It links to neighbouring topics Buildings and structures completed in 1935, Buildings and structures in Hartford County, Connecticut, Civilian Conservation Corps in Connecticut, so understanding it makes those chapters shorter.
In everyday life
Look for Massacoe Forest Pavilion outside the textbook — in sport, cooking, traffic, electronics or the sky above you. An example you found yourself is remembered far longer than one you were given.
