Metropol Istanbul

Metropol Istanbul is a engineering topic covered in the lgStudy science library. This page brings together a partial reference excerpt, illustrations, worked examples, real-world applications and a short study plan, so you can understand Metropol Istanbul rather than just read about it. In short: Metropol İstanbul is a mixed-use skyscraper complex in Ertuğrul in the Ataşehir district on the Asian side of Istanbul, Turkey. The complex consists of three towers, a residential tower (150 m), an office tower (150 m) and a main tower (280 m at roof level, 301 m including its twin spires), a hotel, and one of the largest shopping centers in Turkey with a 16 screen cinema.

Key takeaways

  • Metropol Istanbul belongs to engineering; place it in that map before memorising details.
  • Learn the definition first, then one example that makes the definition concrete.
  • Connect Metropol Istanbul to a quantity you can measure, compute or draw — that is where exam questions come from.
  • Reproduce the core statement of Metropol Istanbul from memory before moving on to harder problems.

Reference excerpt

Metropol İstanbul is a mixed-use skyscraper complex in Ertuğrul in the Ataşehir district on the Asian side of Istanbul, Turkey. The complex consists of three towers, a residential tower (150 m), an office tower (150 m) and a main tower (280 m at roof level, 301 m including its twin spires), a hotel, and one of the largest shopping centers in Turkey with a 16 screen cinema. The project was proposed in 2011. The first phase of the building complex was opened in 2018 while the shopping mall portion opened in 2019. The residential and office blocks measure more than 800 thousand m². The complex cost $800 million to construct and is now the second tallest building in Istanbul and Turkey.

Tower The tower was opened in 2018, designed by Architectural Firm RMJM. Its height reaches 301 m (987 ft 6 in) including the twin spires at top, while its height at the roof level is 280 m (918 ft 8 in). It has 70 floors above ground level.

Shopping center The shopping center was designed by Roy Higgs International. It contains 104,146 m2 of gross leasable area. The major tenants include:

Hupalupa amusement center, 8,960 m2 Boyner department store, 6,600 m2 Cinematica multicinema 5,297 m2 John Reed Fitness gym, 4,385 m2 Das Das theater, 3,843 m2 Carrefour SA hypermarket, 3,273 m2 LC Waikiki clothing store, 2,455 m2 Media Markt electronics, 2,335 m2 Beymen department store, 1,865 m2 FDR amusement center, 1,7412 Evidea homewares, 1,448 m2 Marks & Spencer, 1,323 m2 Paşabahçe homewares, 1,055 m2

Worked examples

Example 1 — a first encounter with Metropol Istanbul

Start with the simplest possible case. Write down what Metropol Istanbul claims or describes in one sentence, then invent the smallest concrete situation in which that sentence is true. In engineering, the smallest case is usually a single object, a single equation or a single measurement. Check that every symbol or term in your sentence has a meaning in that case.

Example 2 — changing one variable

Take the situation from Example 1 and change exactly one quantity: double it, halve it, or set it to zero. Predict what should happen to Metropol Istanbul before you calculate. Comparing your prediction with the result is the fastest way to find out whether you understand the idea or only the words.

Example 3 — an exam-style question

Typical questions about Metropol Istanbul ask you to (a) state it precisely, (b) apply it to given data, and (c) explain a limitation. Practise writing all three answers in under five minutes; the third part is what separates a full-mark answer from an average one.

Applications of Metropol Istanbul

In research
Metropol Istanbul appears in engineering research whenever the underlying quantities have to be modelled precisely. Papers usually cite it as a starting assumption and then explore where it breaks down.
In technology and industry
Engineering practice reuses Metropol Istanbul in design rules, simulations and safety margins. Knowing the idea lets you read a specification sheet and understand why the numbers look the way they do.
In the classroom
Metropol Istanbul is common in secondary-school and first-year university syllabi. It links to neighbouring topics 2019 establishments in Turkey, 21st-century architecture in Turkey, Ataşehir, so understanding it makes those chapters shorter.
In everyday life
Look for Metropol Istanbul outside the textbook — in sport, cooking, traffic, electronics or the sky above you. An example you found yourself is remembered far longer than one you were given.
