Reference excerpt

The Ministry of Rural Development and Food (Greek: Υπουργείο Αγροτικής Ανάπτυξης και Τροφίμων) is a ministry of the Greek Government tasked with modernizing and developing the agricultural sector in Greece. Specifically, among other objectives, the ministry promotes the export orientation of the country's agricultural and fishery products while improving their quality, using the resources of the Common Agricultural Policy and the Common Fisheries Policy, and protecting the environment through the sustainable management of natural resources.

The incumbent minister is Margaritis Schinas of New Democracy.

History The ministry was established in June 1917 by the government of Eleftherios Venizelos under the title Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. [This followed the establishment in 1910 of a joint ministry for the sectors of Agriculture, Commerce, and Industry, also by Eleftherios Venizelos, which was renamed the Ministry of National Economy in 1911.] Almost immediately after, in September 1917, it was renamed the Ministry of Agriculture, a title it held until March 2004. At that time, the government of Kostas Karamanlis renamed it the Ministry of Rural Development and Food to emphasise the development of the agricultural sector. During the first government of Alexis Tsipras, it was demoted to the level of a sub-ministry within the "Ministry of Productive Reconstruction, the Environment and Energy", before being restored as a full ministry in his second cabinet a few months later.

Example 1 — a first encounter with Ministry of Rural Development and Food (Greece)

Start with the simplest possible case. Write down what Ministry of Rural Development and Food (Greece) claims or describes in one sentence, then invent the smallest concrete situation in which that sentence is true. In science, the smallest case is usually a single object, a single equation or a single measurement. Check that every symbol or term in your sentence has a meaning in that case.

Example 2 — changing one variable

Take the situation from Example 1 and change exactly one quantity: double it, halve it, or set it to zero. Predict what should happen to Ministry of Rural Development and Food (Greece) before you calculate. Comparing your prediction with the result is the fastest way to find out whether you understand the idea or only the words.

Example 3 — an exam-style question

Typical questions about Ministry of Rural Development and Food (Greece) ask you to (a) state it precisely, (b) apply it to given data, and (c) explain a limitation. Practise writing all three answers in under five minutes; the third part is what separates a full-mark answer from an average one.

Applications of Ministry of Rural Development and Food (Greece)

In research
Ministry of Rural Development and Food (Greece) appears in science research whenever the underlying quantities have to be modelled precisely. Papers usually cite it as a starting assumption and then explore where it breaks down.
In technology and industry
Engineering practice reuses Ministry of Rural Development and Food (Greece) in design rules, simulations and safety margins. Knowing the idea lets you read a specification sheet and understand why the numbers look the way they do.
In the classroom
Ministry of Rural Development and Food (Greece) is common in secondary-school and first-year university syllabi. It links to neighbouring topics 2004 establishments in Greece, Agricultural organizations based in Greece, Government ministries established in 2004, so understanding it makes those chapters shorter.
