Mohammed Naseeb Qureshy

Mohammed Naseeb Qureshy is a earth science topic covered in the lgStudy science library. This page brings together a partial reference excerpt, illustrations, worked examples, real-world applications and a short study plan, so you can understand Mohammed Naseeb Qureshy rather than just read about it. In short: Mohammed Naseeb Qureshy (MN Qureshy) (4 January 1933 – 2005) was a prominent geologist from India. His main field of study was Exploration geophysics.

Key takeaways

  • Mohammed Naseeb Qureshy belongs to earth science; place it in that map before memorising details.
  • Learn the definition first, then one example that makes the definition concrete.
  • Connect Mohammed Naseeb Qureshy to a quantity you can measure, compute or draw — that is where exam questions come from.
  • Reproduce the core statement of Mohammed Naseeb Qureshy from memory before moving on to harder problems.

Reference excerpt

Mohammed Naseeb Qureshy (MN Qureshy) (4 January 1933 – 2005) was a prominent geologist from India. His main field of study was Exploration geophysics. He graduated from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and earned his Doctorate of Science (DSc) degree in Exploration geophysics from the Colorado School of Mines. During the early 1970s, MN Qureshy designed and coordinated the first indigenous aerial geophysical survey of the Western Ghats and Chitradurga Copper District in India. He also initiated the national regional gravity mapping programme which culminated in publication of first comprehensive gravity maps of India. From 1983 to 1989, he served as the Advisor to the Government of India, Earth Sciences. During this time he helped establish some key Indian scientific organisations such as the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Hyderabad and the National Center for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF), New Delhi. He also initiated the Natural Resources Data Management System (NRDMS) to better serve national needs related to exploitation of natural resources. In 1989, Qureshy planned and established the Centre for Science and Technology of the Non-Aligned (NAM) and other Developing Countries.

Worked examples

Example 1 — a first encounter with Mohammed Naseeb Qureshy

Start with the simplest possible case. Write down what Mohammed Naseeb Qureshy claims or describes in one sentence, then invent the smallest concrete situation in which that sentence is true. In earth science, the smallest case is usually a single object, a single equation or a single measurement. Check that every symbol or term in your sentence has a meaning in that case.

Example 2 — changing one variable

Take the situation from Example 1 and change exactly one quantity: double it, halve it, or set it to zero. Predict what should happen to Mohammed Naseeb Qureshy before you calculate. Comparing your prediction with the result is the fastest way to find out whether you understand the idea or only the words.

Example 3 — an exam-style question

Typical questions about Mohammed Naseeb Qureshy ask you to (a) state it precisely, (b) apply it to given data, and (c) explain a limitation. Practise writing all three answers in under five minutes; the third part is what separates a full-mark answer from an average one.

Applications of Mohammed Naseeb Qureshy

In research
Mohammed Naseeb Qureshy appears in earth science research whenever the underlying quantities have to be modelled precisely. Papers usually cite it as a starting assumption and then explore where it breaks down.
In technology and industry
Engineering practice reuses Mohammed Naseeb Qureshy in design rules, simulations and safety margins. Knowing the idea lets you read a specification sheet and understand why the numbers look the way they do.
In the classroom
Mohammed Naseeb Qureshy is common in secondary-school and first-year university syllabi. It links to neighbouring topics 1933 births, 2005 deaths, 20th-century Indian geologists, so understanding it makes those chapters shorter.
In everyday life
Look for Mohammed Naseeb Qureshy outside the textbook — in sport, cooking, traffic, electronics or the sky above you. An example you found yourself is remembered far longer than one you were given.
