She is a visiting lecturer at University of Oxford since 2008. She is married to Lasantha Malavige who is regarded as Sri Lanka's first sexologist.

Career Neelika graduated with MBBS from the University of Colombo in 2000. She moved to UK and pursued her doctoral studies at the MRC Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine at the University of Oxford where she obtained the Doctorate of Philosophy in 2008. She pursued her doctor studies at the University of Oxford through a Commonwealth Scholarship scheme in 2004. After completing her higher studies in UK, she returned back to Sri Lanka and pursued her academic career as a visiting lecturer in 2008. She obtained the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom (UK) in 2005.
