A Pinner reaction with anhydrous methanolic hydrogen chloride gives the corresponding imidate (imino-ether) [62821-40-3] (5). An addition-elimination reaction with ammonia causes FGI to an amidine, thus completing the synthesis of nitrafudam (6).
