Education As a high school student in 1999, Liang participated in the Research Science Institute at MIT. He competed twice for the U.S. team in the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), winning bronze in 1999 and silver in 2000. Liang went on to serve as the team's deputy leader in 2003, 2006, and 2008. Liang received a Bachelor of Science degree in 2004 and a Master of Engineering degree in 2005 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 2011, where his doctoral advisors were Michael I. Jordan and Dan Klein.
