S-TEC Corporation

S-TEC Corporation is a science topic covered in the lgStudy science library. This page brings together a partial reference excerpt, illustrations, worked examples, real-world applications and a short study plan, so you can understand S-TEC Corporation rather than just read about it. In short: S-TEC Corporation is a United States corporation that was founded in 1978 and is headquartered in Mineral Wells, Texas. It manufactures flight control systems for the General Aviation aftermarket and for a number of original equipment manufacturers.

Key takeaways

  • S-TEC Corporation belongs to science; place it in that map before memorising details.
  • Learn the definition first, then one example that makes the definition concrete.
  • Connect S-TEC Corporation to a quantity you can measure, compute or draw — that is where exam questions come from.
  • Reproduce the core statement of S-TEC Corporation from memory before moving on to harder problems.

Reference excerpt

S-TEC Corporation is a United States corporation that was founded in 1978 and is headquartered in Mineral Wells, Texas. It manufactures flight control systems for the General Aviation aftermarket and for a number of original equipment manufacturers. S-TEC appeared to have been the leader in the general aviation autopilot market for small- and mid-sized planes, though Garmin's GFC 500 autopilot appears to have become more popular after its release in 2017.

Customers Genesys Aerosystems has a number of forward-fit autopilot customers including Pilatus, Indonesian Aerospace, Epic Aircraft, and Aviat Aircraft. Their latest autopilot, the S-TEC 3100, has earned Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) on over 100 aircraft models.

History Meggitt acquired S-TEC and S-TEC Unmanned Technologies (SUTI) for $24 million in 2000. (DRS Technologies purchased the UAV business from Meggitt in 2002 but later closed the Mineral Wells facility.) S-TEC was purchased for $38 million by Cobham plc in 2008. In April 2014, Cobham sold Chelton Flight Systems and S-TEC Corporation to Genesys Aerosystems. December 21, 2020, Moog Inc. announced its acquisition of Genesys Aerosystems Group, Inc, including S-TEC Corporation.

Worked examples

Example 1 — a first encounter with S-TEC Corporation

Start with the simplest possible case. Write down what S-TEC Corporation claims or describes in one sentence, then invent the smallest concrete situation in which that sentence is true. In science, the smallest case is usually a single object, a single equation or a single measurement. Check that every symbol or term in your sentence has a meaning in that case.

Example 2 — changing one variable

Take the situation from Example 1 and change exactly one quantity: double it, halve it, or set it to zero. Predict what should happen to S-TEC Corporation before you calculate. Comparing your prediction with the result is the fastest way to find out whether you understand the idea or only the words.

Example 3 — an exam-style question

Typical questions about S-TEC Corporation ask you to (a) state it precisely, (b) apply it to given data, and (c) explain a limitation. Practise writing all three answers in under five minutes; the third part is what separates a full-mark answer from an average one.

Applications of S-TEC Corporation

In research
S-TEC Corporation appears in science research whenever the underlying quantities have to be modelled precisely. Papers usually cite it as a starting assumption and then explore where it breaks down.
In technology and industry
Engineering practice reuses S-TEC Corporation in design rules, simulations and safety margins. Knowing the idea lets you read a specification sheet and understand why the numbers look the way they do.
In the classroom
S-TEC Corporation is common in secondary-school and first-year university syllabi. It links to neighbouring topics Aircraft component manufacturers of the United States, Avionics companies, Electronic design, so understanding it makes those chapters shorter.
In everyday life
Look for S-TEC Corporation outside the textbook — in sport, cooking, traffic, electronics or the sky above you. An example you found yourself is remembered far longer than one you were given.
