Sh 2-228 (also known as LBN 784) is an emission nebula and H II region located in the constellation of Auriga. It is part of the Sharpless catalog of 313 H II regions compiled by American astronomer Stewart Sharpless. Sh 2-228 has an asymmetrical shape and is located near the large Auriga OB1 association. It is a region of star formation. Sh 2-228 contains or is associated with the infrared star cluster [IBP2002] CC 01 (also known as CC 01), a young open cluster with an estimated mass of about 1800 M☉. The cluster consists of several bright blue stars and a population of fainter stars, with an age of approximately 1–2 million years. Surrounding field stars in the region are older, estimated at 5–6 million years. In the Avedisova Catalogue, the nebula is also associated with some radio wave sources. Studies based on radio wave emissions have provided for Sh 2-228 a significantly greater distance, around 7,900 parsecs (over 25,000 light-years).
