Triisodontidae is an extinct paraphyletic family of hoofed mammals. All undisputed triisodontid genera lived during the Paleocene in North America. Triisodontids were the first large predatory mammals to appear in North America following the extinction of the non-avian dinosaurs. They differ from mesonychians in having less highly modified dentition. Because of their similar tooth morphology, triisodontids were considered to have been mesonychians by many experts. However, a recent study recovered them outside the order and instead a paraphyletic group of stem-mesonychians. Other studies have found them to be more closely related to modern ungulates than to mesonychians. Phylogenetic analysis suggests mesonychians splitting off from triisodontids during the Late Cretaceous.
