Westfriedhof station

Westfriedhof station is a engineering topic covered in the lgStudy science library. This page brings together a partial reference excerpt, illustrations, worked examples, real-world applications and a short study plan, so you can understand Westfriedhof station rather than just read about it. In short: Westfriedhof is an U-Bahn station in Munich on the U1 line of the Munich U-Bahn system, it opened on 24 May 1998, the extension onwards to Georg-Brauchle-Ring was completed in 2003. It is located in the course of the second main line on the border between the Munich districts Neuhausen-Nymphenburg and Moosach.

Key takeaways

  • Westfriedhof station belongs to engineering; place it in that map before memorising details.
  • Learn the definition first, then one example that makes the definition concrete.
  • Connect Westfriedhof station to a quantity you can measure, compute or draw — that is where exam questions come from.
  • Reproduce the core statement of Westfriedhof station from memory before moving on to harder problems.

Reference excerpt

Westfriedhof is an U-Bahn station in Munich on the U1 line of the Munich U-Bahn system, it opened on 24 May 1998, the extension onwards to Georg-Brauchle-Ring was completed in 2003. It is located in the course of the second main line on the border between the Munich districts Neuhausen-Nymphenburg and Moosach. The station built below Orpheusstraße was opened to traffic on 24 May 1998. The subway station is served by the subway line . Since 12 December 2011, it has also been the terminus of the reinforcement line, which only runs during rush hours. There is a link with other Munich public transport lines at above-ground tram stops. From 1998 to 2003 it was the terminus of the line and is the terminus of tram line . Because of its lighting design, it is occasionally used as a photo motif by advertising agencies and the special atmosphere has also been used as a record cover. The light comes from eleven lamps, each 3.80 metres in diameter, which have luminaires in blue, red and yellow. At the western end sunlight falls in. This divides the platform into different colours. Together with the rough walls, the station is reminiscent of a cave. Originally, the architect had planned a glass pane in front of the walls, but he liked it better that way. However, the walls had to be secured with a steel net in 2003, as individual pieces had loosened from the wall time and again. The barrier storey can be reached by rolling stairs, fixed staircases and a lift. From there you can also get to the surface by means of rolling and fixed stairs and a lift, where there is a connection to the tram line to Moosach and to the tram lines and in the direction of the city centre.

Worked examples

Example 1 — a first encounter with Westfriedhof station

Start with the simplest possible case. Write down what Westfriedhof station claims or describes in one sentence, then invent the smallest concrete situation in which that sentence is true. In engineering, the smallest case is usually a single object, a single equation or a single measurement. Check that every symbol or term in your sentence has a meaning in that case.

Example 2 — changing one variable

Take the situation from Example 1 and change exactly one quantity: double it, halve it, or set it to zero. Predict what should happen to Westfriedhof station before you calculate. Comparing your prediction with the result is the fastest way to find out whether you understand the idea or only the words.

Example 3 — an exam-style question

Typical questions about Westfriedhof station ask you to (a) state it precisely, (b) apply it to given data, and (c) explain a limitation. Practise writing all three answers in under five minutes; the third part is what separates a full-mark answer from an average one.

Applications of Westfriedhof station

In research
Westfriedhof station appears in engineering research whenever the underlying quantities have to be modelled precisely. Papers usually cite it as a starting assumption and then explore where it breaks down.
In technology and industry
Engineering practice reuses Westfriedhof station in design rules, simulations and safety margins. Knowing the idea lets you read a specification sheet and understand why the numbers look the way they do.
In the classroom
Westfriedhof station is common in secondary-school and first-year university syllabi. It links to neighbouring topics 1998 establishments in Germany, Buildings and structures completed in 1998, Munich U-Bahn stations, so understanding it makes those chapters shorter.
In everyday life
Look for Westfriedhof station outside the textbook — in sport, cooking, traffic, electronics or the sky above you. An example you found yourself is remembered far longer than one you were given.
