Yacht Club Tower

Yacht Club Tower is a engineering topic covered in the lgStudy science library. This page brings together a partial reference excerpt, illustrations, worked examples, real-world applications and a short study plan, so you can understand Yacht Club Tower rather than just read about it. In short: The Yacht Club Tower is a residential skyscraper in the Calidonia district of Panama City, Panama. Built between 2008 and 2012, the tower stands at 196 m (643 ft) tall with 57 floors and is the 24th tallest building in Panama City.

Key takeaways

  • Yacht Club Tower belongs to engineering; place it in that map before memorising details.
  • Learn the definition first, then one example that makes the definition concrete.
  • Connect Yacht Club Tower to a quantity you can measure, compute or draw — that is where exam questions come from.
  • Reproduce the core statement of Yacht Club Tower from memory before moving on to harder problems.

Reference excerpt

The Yacht Club Tower is a residential skyscraper in the Calidonia district of Panama City, Panama. Built between 2008 and 2012, the tower stands at 196 m (643 ft) tall with 57 floors and is the 24th tallest building in Panama City.

History The tower is located in the Calidonia neighbourhood of Panama City. It was designed by the Panamanian architectural firm Mallol & Mallol and as its name suggests, the building's concept is that of a ship, with the floors having the shape of a yacht facing the sea. The top of the building culminates in a knife-shaped point covered in glass. It is currently one of the tallest skyscrapers on the Balboa Avenue. The tower contains a total of 210 apartment units with gross floor areas of between 116 and 218 m2 (2,350 sq ft). The tenants have the right to use up to two boats belonging to the tower. The social area of the building which is situated on the first floors hosts several swimming pools, lap pools, Jacuzzis, a gym and other complementary facilities. The tower was the winning project in the national competition for the 2012 Cemex Architecture Award, which allowed it to represent Panama in the prestigious international version of this competition.

Worked examples

Example 1 — a first encounter with Yacht Club Tower

Start with the simplest possible case. Write down what Yacht Club Tower claims or describes in one sentence, then invent the smallest concrete situation in which that sentence is true. In engineering, the smallest case is usually a single object, a single equation or a single measurement. Check that every symbol or term in your sentence has a meaning in that case.

Example 2 — changing one variable

Take the situation from Example 1 and change exactly one quantity: double it, halve it, or set it to zero. Predict what should happen to Yacht Club Tower before you calculate. Comparing your prediction with the result is the fastest way to find out whether you understand the idea or only the words.

Example 3 — an exam-style question

Typical questions about Yacht Club Tower ask you to (a) state it precisely, (b) apply it to given data, and (c) explain a limitation. Practise writing all three answers in under five minutes; the third part is what separates a full-mark answer from an average one.

Applications of Yacht Club Tower

In research
Yacht Club Tower appears in engineering research whenever the underlying quantities have to be modelled precisely. Papers usually cite it as a starting assumption and then explore where it breaks down.
In technology and industry
Engineering practice reuses Yacht Club Tower in design rules, simulations and safety margins. Knowing the idea lets you read a specification sheet and understand why the numbers look the way they do.
In the classroom
Yacht Club Tower is common in secondary-school and first-year university syllabi. It links to neighbouring topics 2012 establishments in Panama, Buildings and structures completed in 2012, Panamanian building and structure stubs, so understanding it makes those chapters shorter.
In everyday life
Look for Yacht Club Tower outside the textbook — in sport, cooking, traffic, electronics or the sky above you. An example you found yourself is remembered far longer than one you were given.
